E30 2.5 M3 - Cold Starting is a Bitch !!!
« on: Today at 01:01:48 PM »

Good afternoon !

Last year I switched from a poorly tuned alpha/n tune to Miller Performance. I started the tuning process with this file (071 G3M 2.5L Race.mpc Gen 3 MAF 2.5L Race motor tune) and after a dyno session and many tuning sessions on the road... the motor runs extremely well except for one aspect.  It is a bitch to start !!  That was never true with the alpha/n so I suspect the problem lies with the cold start ignition and timing cells in this tune.  I've tried lots of different entries but nothing changes.

Here's a description of the starting process and the motor build specs can be seen below:

Turn the motor over 7-9 times without touching the throttle
Press the throttle to the floor and hold it for 7-9 turns
Take your foot off the throttle while continuing to turn the motor over.
Repeat this process 3-5 times
The motor will attempt to start
It will only run if you feather the throttle to keep the rpm's between 2000-2500
Repeat all the above steps 2-3 times.
Now the motor will start and idle pleasantly at 850-900 rpms
Go figure !!

Motor Specifications

BMW Evo 3 2.5 block with oil squirters
CP 11.25 pistons
Pauter rods
292/284 Schrick cams
BMW Evo 3 2.5 injectors
Stock FPR
Head ported by Don Fields
Larger Schrick valves
Group N headers ceramic coated
Stock cat
Supersprint exhaust
Innovate WBO2 and AFR gauge

Any suggestions about sorting out my cold start issues would be highly appreciated!!   If you have looked at the cold start ignition and timing entries on any of the cached tunes for the S14 they seem to be very much the same... and the entry in the second column is either zero or wildly different from any nearby entry??!!

Many thanks
